Vegetarians compromise for the holidays
Nov 2018 — We don’t have to cave in for the holidays if we take these precautions:

- Exercise on the road when traveling
- Pre-eat vegetarian food to balance what the host will offer
- Carry purse snacks
- Stay hydrated
- Be flexible
- Schedule time for self-care
- Inform the hostess in advance of your dietary restrictions, including animal broth. Encourage whatever efforts are made. Offer to help with the dishes so you can bring/prepare some vegetarian dishes.
- As a host, add more fat, plant-based of course, to enhance the flavor of dishes for nonvegetarian guests.
- Be low-key with answers about your being vegetarian. Focus on your health plusses, not what you give up. Admit if you don’t have an answer. Avoid proselytizing.
- Handle your craving for animal foods you used to eat by adding the seasonings you used in the past or by using imitation flavors.
